Caboolture Bus Lines (CBL), a family-owned operator serving the greater Moreton Bay region, faced significant challenges with legacy systems and manual workarounds. To modernize their operations, they implemented Optibus Operations and the Driver App, resulting in greater accuracy and transparency for both drivers and the operations team. Implementation was completed in just six weeks, with the software being fully adopted across all team members, thanks to its ease-of-use.

Historically, CBL’s operations were fragmented, relying on mandated legacy systems alongside a generic platform with limited capabilities. This combination required constant manual edits and workarounds, creating a high risk for errors. CBL sought a best-in-class solution to support all core processes — from operations and rostering to driver communication and business growth.

Solution

CBL implemented the end-to-end Optibus Platform, a cloud-native operating system that unites planning, scheduling, and real-time execution. By utilizing Optibus Operations, CBL created a “control center” that manages long-term resource planning and daily dispatching with built-in validations to ensure compliance. The Driver App was introduced to provide drivers with instant shift visibility and digital communication, replacing manual processes.

It unites scheduling, driver allocation, payroll, and resource management into one connected system that responds dynamically to daily changes. If a vehicle breaks down or a driver calls in sick, the system helps dispatchers quickly reassign resources using built-in validations and preferences. It supports long-term planning, real-time adjustments, and automated alerts to flag potential issues before they affect service. 
  • The Driver App connects drivers directly to their schedule and operations team through their mobile device. Drivers can check their duties, request time off, get updates, and manage their preferences – all in one place. This reduces manual communication and increases visibility for everyone involved. Drivers stay informed, dispatchers stay organized, and changes flow through the platform automatically. Part of the larger platform, the app supports better planning, fewer disruptions, and increased job satisfaction – making it easier to retain drivers and run dependable service.

  • Driver Satisfaction and Communication: Driver satisfaction has increased significantly with the implementation of the Optibus Driver App, particularly due to its streamlined sign-on process and improved shift clarity. 90 drivers now receive detailed information on their routes and trips, giving them a full picture of their day and eliminating information gaps.  Push notifications keep drivers informed of real-time changes, building confidence around payroll and enabling direct communication with the operations team.
